About Huskies

General Info:

  • Alaskan Huskies are athletic, strong-willed, and hardworking dogs often bred for sledding and racing.

  • As such, Huskies need a lot of exercise. They have a lot of energy and endurance, and are able to thrive on cold climates.

  • Alaskan Huskies are not a recognized breed by the American Kennel Club, but rather a group of dogs with mixed heritage - including breeds like Siberian Huskies.

  • Size: medium, Generally 20-26 inches tall and 35-75 pounds

  • Coat: Thick double coat, short to medium length, which can vary in color and pattern.

  • Temperament: Friendly, intelligent, active, and dedicated to their people

  • Lifespan: 14-16 years

Behavioral Traits:

  • Energy Level: HIGH energy. Huskies need a lot of exercise to stay happy :)

  • Pack Instinct: Strong pack mentality. Prefer to be part of a family or group

  • Trainability: Highly trainable, but can sometimes be stubborn

  • Barking: Not known for barking, but often howl or sing

  • Affection: Affectionate with family members and often friendly with strangers

  • Health: Generally healthy, but susceptible to certain eye problems like cataracts and progressive retinal atrophy, as well as hypothyroidism.
